Roger Williams Straus Professor of Social Sciences and

professor of politics

Returning to Munich Dialogues on Democracy, Jan-Werner Mueller is one of the world's pre-eminent public intellectuals on all aspects of democracy.  In recent articles he has weighed in on how today’s autocrats control public opinion, how the student encampments have the potential to strengthen US democracy, the importance of civil protest, and the failure of political parties in Western democracies to provide consistent programs and to restrain a leader when necessary.

Join us the day after the US vice-presidential debate between Senator JD Vance and Governor Tim Walz. We'll address the state of our politics and the problems with our political parties, both in Europe and in the run-up to the US elections on November 5th.
